If you think Flocknote is only for the “younger generation,” think again!
We had the honor of chatting with Tammy Townsend (National Director of Communications) and Sister Angela from Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, who started using Flocknote to communicate among the 230 sisters who live and minister in over 35 convents across 8 U.S. states.
While the average age of the Sisters is 73, their ages range from late-30s to early-90’s. One-third of users in the Sisters of Nazareth network are over the age of 65, and they all range in their technological savvy.
“To our happy surprise, it was not only the “younger” Sisters (under 65 years old) who embraced the use of Flocknote but also the Sisters who are 80+ years old,” Tammy said. The older group are among our biggest fans of Flocknote.”
Sr. Eunice (pictured below) is one of their biggest Flocknote fans.
The need for a tool like Flocknote was realized when they attempted to send some very important, time-sensitive news to the sisters, but did not have an effective system in place.
“We had to make sure we had something that was not only easy for the end user, but also easy on the back end. The provincial council changes every 6 years, so we wanted something easily trainable and easy to use,” Tammy shared.
“What appealed to the Sisters, in particular, was first having a way to test with under 40 members with a few Sisters,“ Flocknote offers every user the ability to use the tool free for up to 40 members.
To teach the sisters how to use Flocknote, they held a video conference, and as a result, Tammy recounted, “the sisters fell in love with it!”
When the idea of Flocknote was presented to the leadership team, it was initially met with hesitation. Questions were raised like, Will this create more work? Will it duplicate our efforts? Is it worth it?
But those uncertainties were quickly alleviated when the leadership team saw the tool in action, and after using Flocknote for a few months, Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth have found it to be a great fit.
“We appreciate that the product fits our needs, but also is affordable,” Tammy said.
From Sisters who have not yet signed up, Tammy and Sister Angela commonly hears, “You know that Flocknote thing, can I still sign up for that? I’d like to get those emails in my inbox!”
The wonderful Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth demonstrate that it is possible to embrace technology at any age!
